The challenge as we see it
Lithium-ion batteries are a key element of electromobility and the energy transition. But the lifespan of the batteries is finite. So what happens to the batteries after use?
The law stipulates that lithium-ion batteries must be taken back by industry and trade and, according to European Directive 2006/66/EG, at least 50 percent must be recycled. The valuable raw materials cobalt, manganese, nickel and lithium are particularly interesting for recycling. Veolia has developed a comprehensive recycling process in order to recover precisely these substances from the batteries and to use them in new applications in the spirit of the circular economy.
Our solutions for battery recycling
Our approach is to offer a recycling process for the valuable raw materials that are in used lithium-ion batteries. We recover as much valuable material as possible under the highest quality and safety standards throughout the value chain. In this way, we not only help our customers to meet legal requirements, but also act in the interests of the circular economy.
